From Student Assistent to Designer: My Creative Journey at Stadslab Rotterdam
During my time at Stadslab Rotterdam, I transitioned from a part-time role during my studies to becoming the primary member of the design team, contributing to social media, illustration, and branding projects. For Stadslab's 10-year anniversary, I crafted a cohesive visual identity, designing vibrant illustrations and engaging content that shaped the milestone’s celebrations. This role allowed me to grow with a dynamic organization and leave a lasting creative impact on the community.

About Stadslab Rotterdam
Stadslab Rotterdam is the digital workshop of the CMI Institute at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, providing a creative space equipped with advanced tools like laser cutters, 3D printers, and VR/AR facilities. It serves as a hub for innovation, where students and professionals alike can bring their ideas to life through cutting-edge technology.
My Role
At Stadslab Rotterdam, I progressed from a student assistant to the lead designer on the team. My role involved creating social media content, illustrations, and contributing to the lab’s branding strategy. Beyond design, I was involved in helping students with their projects, guiding them on how to use the lab's equipment effectively. I also organized and led workshops on the different machines available, demonstrating their capabilities and inspiring others to explore new creative possibilities.
Illustrations
I created a series of illustrations and icons for all the machines offered at Stadslab Rotterdam, which played a key role in both communication and organization within the lab. These visuals were designed to help students quickly identify each machine amidst the often chaotic environment.
The illustrations focus on what each machine produces, with the action or product highlighted in bright, standout colors to make recognition instant and intuitive. This visual system not only streamlined the lab's workflow but also served as the foundation for the open badges we later introduced. These badges allowed students to earn certifications for mastering specific machines, further enhancing their learning experiences.
10-Year Anniversary
I managed the communications for the Stadslab's 10th anniversary celebration, crafting engaging social media posts, LinkedIn banners, and email banners to spread the word. I also designed eye-catching flyers and developed an interactive timeline to highlight the lab’s journey and milestones. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the event and connect with our community!
